Knights Hall

Located near the summit of the neo-Gothic tower known as the “Belvedere Tower” this large rectangular salon has a magnificent painted caisson ceiling and walls decorated with the heraldic shields of the families who lived here over the centuries.  These family shields, objects of close study, are also reflected in the specially commissioned small tiles which pave the salon and other floors in cases where it was deemed impossible to restore the original pavement. The Knights’ Salon, apart from the elegant fireplace with its painted hood, holds many other important works of art:  a careful selection of 16th and 17th century furniture, original Savonarola chairs, a pair of 17th century consoles and a Carracci school painting of the Labors of Hercules dating to the 17th century. The wrought iron ceiling lamps are of particular note, with their raven and lion tassels, the emblems of the Castle.  Go to the second part of the text
